Google Data Studio Bubble Chart of SEO Improvement Opportunities

Google Data Studio Bubble Chart of SEO Improvement Opportunities

The Google Search Console blog recently shared a free template to import your Google Search Console data and plot the search queries in a bubble chart. Why would you want to do this? Because it visually helps you know what is actionable in optimizing organic search keywords and pages.

The larger the bubble the higher amount of traffic it generates. Hovering over the bubbles shows you the search query, the CTR, and clicks.

  • Top left – high position but low CTR
Action needed: Improve CTR. You are ranking well but need to improve your click through rate. Look at the search results and see if there are ads or other search features causing you to be less visible on the search results. This article has some tips on how to improve organic search CTR.
  • Top right – high position and high CTR
Action needed: None, optimized and performing well
  • Bottom left – low position and low CTR
Action needed: Improve searcher intent match, improve content quality. This might indicate high competition, not matching searcher intent, or just needs further on-page improvement. Can you move large bubbles up and to the right? These are the stretch goal areas of improvement.
  • Bottom right – low position and high CTR
Action needed: This is your low-hanging fruit opportunity. With some improvements to the page, you are likely to increase the amount of traffic you receive.
