How to Add a HubSpot CMS Developer to a HubSpot Account with Proper Permissions

To build and edit pages and theme templates in HubSpot, an admin must update your specific user permissions. Follow these steps:

1. Grant Content Editing Permissions

The admin needs to ensure you have “Edit” and “Publish” access for the specific content types you’ll be working on.

  • Go to Settings > Users & Teams.
  • Select the user (Colleen Lett) and click the Access tab.
  • Under Marketing > Website tools, ensure the following are toggled to ON:
    • Landing Pages: Check Edit and Publish.
    • Website Pages: Check Edit and Publish.
    • Blog: Check Edit and Publish.

2. Enable Design Tools (Required for Themes)

To edit CSS, modules, and theme templates, you need access to the developer environment.

  • In the same Marketing permissions section, scroll down to Website tools.
  • Find Design tools and toggle it to ON.

3. Provide Content Staging Access

This allows you to build and test a brand new website in a separate sandbox area before going live.

  • Under Website tools, toggle Content staging to ON.
